Project SCD Nigeria

CITAMIL

We are thrilled to announce that in 2023, the Brain and Body Foundation, in collaboration with Embrace Kids and Tackle Sickle Cell, led by the McCourty twins – Jason and Devin (both NFL players) have kicked off the project SCD Nigeria campaign with the goal of providing Citamil supplements (a combination of vitamin C, zinc, and vitamin D3) monthly to 2000 children living with sickle cell disease for an entire year.

This is part of our sickle cell disease endgame, which aims to reduce the death rate of children under the age of five with SCD from 75% to less than 10% by 2025. The 25,000 bottles of Citamil have arrived and we have started distributing them to our collaborators for their beneficiaries here in Nigeria.

PROJECT SCD NIGERIA: COMMUNITY OUTREACH

BBF team organized a sickle cell community outreach in Karu, Nassarawa state, Nigeria, a local government area just outside the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja. Brain and Body Foundation is delighted to announce that Project SCD Nigeria is beginning to broaden to major cities throughout Nigeria.

Sickle Cell Patient Health Promotion Centre

Sickle Cell Patient Health Promotion Centre (SCPHPC) evolved out of the desire to assist the less privileged sickle cell patients in the community. The major goals of the SCPHPC are to help sickle cell patients who are in need in the community and to raise public awareness of the causes and consequences of sickle cell anemia through counseling, workshops, seminars, and other educational activities.
