Understanding Dementia

The Brain and Body Foundation has been authorized by the Federal Ministry of Health to address brain disorders in children and adults using nutraceuticals.

Dementia is a group of conditions characterized by impairment of at least two brain functions such as memory and judgment. The most common form of dementia is Alzheimer’s disease, for which there is no cure, treatment, or way of preventing or slowing the progression of the disease.

There are more than three million cases in the United States alone.

This condition alone costs more than the treatment of heart disease and cancers combined.

Current approaches include the following:

  1. Rehabilitation

  2. Occupational therapy

  3. Medications (most commonly Aricept)

Limitations of standard treatment: While they help, they do not:

  1. Stimulate repair

  2. Tend to create other problems

Our Approach to Addressing Neurodegenerative Conditions:

The brain is such a complex organ that one approach alone simply isn’t going to cut it. We select from a combination of approaches depending on the individual needs of the patient/client.

Here are our most commonly used (and what we have seen to be our most effective) approaches:

  1. Address neuroinflammation using a combination of:

  1. Improve Brain blood flow and cognitive function by boosting nitric oxide production and utilization, especially in the learning and memory centers of the brain (

  2. High potency probiotics to address gut dysbiosis: recent studies show that neurodegenerative conditions (including Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s diseases) begin in the gut and not in the brain as was previously thought. Certain bacteria in the gut have been shown to trigger the formation of neurofibrillary tangles in the brain. The use of probiotics in both neurodevelopmental and neurodegenerative conditions has been well documented. This “dysbiosis” can be addressed/countered using the right combination of probiotics.

  3. Slow down the progression and induce repair. Some of the tools we use to do this include:

  1. Improve synaptic health and transmission this includes
